Other Popular Activities in Rishikesh

Best Time for Rafting in Rishikesh

Post-Monsoon Season (Late September to Mid-November)

Following the heavy rains, the Ganges River is full and flowing strong, creating exciting rapids. The weather is cool and pleasant, making it perfect for both rafting and enjoying other outdoor activities like camping in Rishikesh. The water is incredibly clear, and the lush greenery from the rainy season makes the scenery spectacular. This period is a favorite among experienced rafters.

Summer Season (March to mid-June)

This is the most popular season for rafting, attracting the highest number of visitors. The weather is warm and sunny, which makes a refreshing dip in the cold river a welcome experience. While the tourist rush is higher, the pleasant summer heat makes this an incredibly enjoyable time to be on the water. The river’s volume increases due to melting snow from the Himalayas, leading to a good mix of rapids suitable for all skill levels, including beginners and families.

Winter Season (December to January)

For those seeking longer expeditions and a more tranquil experience, December and January offer a unique opportunity. The water of the Ganges is at its clearest and cleanest during this time. While the air temperature is chilly, the weather is crisp and the views are stunning. These months are perfect for an extended Rishikesh rafting expedition with camping, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful bonfire under a clear, starry sky with fewer crowds. Wet suits are often provided by operators to help with the cold water.

When to Avoid Rafting ⚠️

River rafting in Rishikesh is closed during the monsoon season, which typically runs from July to early September. Heavy rainfall during this time causes the river levels to become dangerously high and unpredictable, making rafting unsafe. Always check the seasonal conditions and book with a reputable operator.
